Senate to Draft New Legislation to Counter China

  • The proposal includes taking steps to limit the flow of advanced technology to China.
  • It will also aim to deter China from initiating a conflict with Taiwan or other US allies in the region.

The China Competition Bill 2.0 follows an effort last year when President Biden signed legislation to spend over $200 billion to counter China.

  • The bill approved more than $170 billion over five years to boost US scientific research to compete with China.
  • It also included $52 billion in new subsidies for semiconductor manufacturing and research.
