In less than two months, using publicly available tools, a developer built an AI-powered propaganda machine to show people how easy it is to create mass propaganda.
- The AI takes articles with “opposing” views and writes a “counter article.” It would then offer different examples of the same article, written in different styles with different viewpoints.
- The developer said it would do this by “creating fake stories, fake historical events, and creating doubt in the accuracy of the original article.”
Combine these fake counter articles with AI-generated voices and photos, fake journalist profiles, and fake comments and it’s very difficult to differentiate reality from this propaganda.
